Sometimes, visions fill my head of wanting to be just like Robin Hood…only I’m the girl version! “Lori Hood”? No, it doesn't have that same ring to it at all, does it? Well, here's a NEWS FLASH for you... Lori Twining needs your money! I would love to give as much as I can, to the people who need it. What does that mean exactly? Well, I’m not going to steal your bag full of money, like Robin Hood and his merry men, if that’s what you’re thinking, but instead, I want to be more polite and ask you for it! Grin.
In this case, I am joining together with 39 other writer friends raising money for Literacy… for the people who are less fortunate than you… the ones who can’t read this blog post… the ones who have trouble reading a picture book with only a few words to their young children before they tuck them into bed at night. If you think about it, that is very sad, almost embarrassing for them. Can you really imagine not being able to read or write? Seriously, that would be devastating to me! We take reading for granted, and why wouldn’t we, we’ve never had to learn how to adjust without the skill, so I’m taking it on myself to help them… the people I have never had the privilege to meet… but, I do want to make a difference in their lives, if I can.
I’m preparing to give up 72 hours of my busy life, in the middle of HOT July, to sit in a room and try to write a complete novel from scratch. That’s right, I’m not
joking when I say, I try to sit in my chair for 72 hours straight with a rare coffee and bathroom break.
This event is called The Muskoka Novel Marathon. It is an annual event to raise funds and awareness for adult literacy in Muskoka. This year the YMCA Muskoka Simcoe has joined forces again, with the Muskoka Novel Marathon and will collect the money raised and distribute it to the necessary literacy programs. To date, the event has raised over $65,000 for literacy. That is amazing! In 2011, during my 1st year participating we raised $8600 and in 2012; my 2nd year, we raised over $15,000; and my 3rd year, we raised almost $20,000! My personal goal is to raise as much as possible, but I'm aiming for at least $777.77 this year, which is a big task, so I need your help. Remember, they do hand out tax receipts to help you get a portion back on your yearly taxes! Truthfully, giving a small donation should make you feel fantastic to give to such a great cause… your heart will be full… and so will mine!
This year, the 2014 Muskoka Novel Marathon will be held in Huntsville from July 11-14. If you want to investigate my fund-raising efforts further, please check out this site for more details on who is writing and collecting during the Muskoka Novel Marathon 2014 or email me at lvt_writes[at]yahoo[dot]ca if you have any questions or concerns.
I’d love to be able to say that I had lots of help and that there are so many people that actually care about making Illiteracy disappear!
If you would like to help me, you can donate on-line from NOW until July 10, 2014 at this Canada Helps link: Lori Twining raising money for Literacy
or you can email me and let me know that you are interested in sponsoring me. I can even arrange a pick-up of the monies!
Just an important side-note: If you sponsor $100 or more to my personal fund-raising effort, you can have a cameo appearance or a main character… or if you are a creative person, you can share your ideas and I will use them in my new fiction novel… or, if you are like my husband, he is giving me $100 “NOT” to
include him in my novel! Grin. Whatever you feel more comfortable with! I appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you so much, from the bottom of my
heart!
