Shortlisted on Halloween

I MADE THE SHORTLIST!

I'm using all caps because I'm shouting & dancing around my kitchen right now. After a huge discussion and friendly debate among the judges, the team has decided on the final eight Canadian writers who will partake in the Blank Spaces Anthology.

What happens now?

The final eight stories are being published within a short story collection, titled: "The Things We Leave Behind Anthology". The book will be published in April 2022 and is available for preorder on the Blank Spaces website. See the link below:

It is always a happy day when I have a small thing to celebrate…

THANK YOU to all my friends and family for pushing me on to the Longlist for the Blank Spaces Magazine Anthology Contest. I appreciate every single vote. Now, if only I could bake enough cake for all of you to share. Sending hugs!

If possible, keep your fingers crossed for me to make it through the next round of judging. They will announce the Shortlist in early November.

Waiting is hard. Ugh.

I need a favour from my friends and family:

Sometimes, I do random things that turn into amazing things.

Last fall, I signed up to take an online writing course called, Lit Mag Love with Rachel Thompson, an editor with Room Magazine. It was to help me understand how to submit to literary magazines and to further my chances of actually getting published (highly recommend this course).

I'm one of those writers that consider myself to be as far from a literary writer as possible. My poetry and prose are not flowery and descriptive enough to be taken seriously in the Canadian Literary World. Possibly, it is because my emotions don't run deep enough and I don't have a background full of horrible things that happened to me while growing up. However, at least once or twice a week, I feel like I can be one of those amazing writers, digging deeper into my soul finding the words to tell a story in a unique and literary way, so I try.

During Rachel's course, one of our exercises was to find a literary writer that has already been published in a Canadian Literary Magazine and ask them questions; questions that might help a new writer get published.

This is exciting... I am one of 37 Canadians featured in this Literary Arts Anthology hitting the shelves SOOOOOON!

Blank Spaces Literary Arts Magazine has collected the best of their fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction pieces over the past year to be featured in one anthology. It is being released in ebook and hard print copy this Fall. I'll keep you posted on where you can purchase your copy.
