Chosen from a very high caliber of written pieces (275 submitted in total), the Ontario Writers' Conference announced their 6 winners of the 2016 Story Starters Contest, all chosen by our attendees over the two Conference days.
Chosen from a very high caliber of written pieces (275 submitted in total), the Ontario Writers' Conference announced their 6 winners of the 2016 Story Starters Contest, all chosen by our attendees over the two Conference days.
Many thanks to the Story Starters Judge, Canadian author, teacher, poet James Dewar for narrowing a long-list of 64 pieces down to a list of 18 finalists (3 per month from September to February). Final voting for the winners took place on Saturday, April 30th, 2016 at the evening of the Festival of Authors. They were announced on Sunday, May 1st, 2016 at the Ontario Writers' Conference. Congratulations and much success to all the winners:

- Lori Twining in October for “I refold…”
- Tina Liu in November for “The fog smelled…”
- Beth L. in December for “Terra’s Violation”
- Dale R. Long in January for “My paddle draws…”
- Stephanie G. in February for “Be careful where…”
Art has an amazing way of telling a story all on it's own, but when coupled with a storyteller the imagination will run wild.
The art used for this Story Starter Contest was amazing and truly inspiring. It motivated the writers to create many different options for each piece, which gives the author a chance to develop their entries into an actual short story or novel later.
