Description: Six responsible adults. Three cute kids. One small dog. It’s just a normal weekend. What could possibly go wrong? Sam and Clementine have a wonderful, albeit, busy life: they have two little girls, Sam has just started a new dream job, and Clementine, a cellist, is busy preparing for the audition of a lifetime. If there’s anything they can count on, it’s each other. Clementine and Erika are each other’s oldest friends. A single look between them can convey an entire conversation. But theirs is a complicated relationship, so when Erika mentions a last minute invitation to a barbecue with her neighbors, Tiffany and Vid, Clementine and Sam don’t hesitate. Having Tiffany and Vid’s larger than life personalities there will be a welcome respite. Two months later, it won’t stop raining, and Clementine and Sam can’t stop asking themselves the question: What if we hadn’t gone? |

This is my third book by Liane Moriarty. I loved reading both Big Little Lies & The Husband's Secret. Liane has a wonderful way with character development and everyone seems so real and unique. She can make complicated relationships so complex that I am jealous (I'm a writer too). I love her style of writing and I love her humour (which was absent from this book).
However, Truly Madly Guilty (love the title) didn't grab my attention like the other two books did. This book was a SLOW read... SLOW to begin... SLOW through the middle... and it took forever to get to the end. I did turn the pages a little faster around the three-quarter mark, but seriously, I found it almost a chore to continue to read it. I got to the point where I just didn't care about any of the characters or anything happening in the book. I mean there was a tiny tug there, wondering what actually happened at the BBQ that could take over 200 pages to even mention THE THING, but 60% of me just didn't care to find out.
Bottom line, I was disappointed and I didn't want to be, because I love Liane's writing. I have told many people to start reading her books because I loved the ones I had read already. SORRY, Liane.
(because I love the way Liane Moriarty writes with each character becoming so real, as if I know them AND because each situation is so every day normal, that you start to wonder what your neighbours are really up to, and if you really know them at all). I do highly recommend reading her novels: Big Little Lies and The Husband's Secret!
